To solve the exercise you should first read the question for this exercise very carefully; it defines exactly what your program has to do. The sequence and types of the inputs is very important. The output must contain all the suggested information for the automatic assessment to work.

You may find the following files helpful; you may wish to copy them to your own floppy disc using the "Save as ..." option from the "File" pull-down menu. The program you develop will probably need to be in a file named "prog5cg.C".

To submit work for assessment by Ceilidh, you will need a Ceilidh login name and password. If you already have these, you may continue. If not, go to the registration page.

There are two ways to complete the exercise.

• You may develop your program on your WWW browser, interacting all the time with the WWW Ceilidh server, and using the WWW server to compile and test your program.
• Alternatively, you may obtain a local copy of the program, develop it on your PC using your own development tool (e.g. Borland C++) and then attach to file for submission to Ceilidh for marking. If you have your own PC development system, this is much the faster and more convenient alternative.

First method: Enter your Ceilidh logname and password on the form, and press the "Go" button.

Second method:

• Move to the "program skeleton" link at the top of this page, and copy the skeleton to an appropriate file on your machine. We suggest a name such as

  prog5cg.C
  

  for unit "5" exercise "cg" of the "pr2" course. The file suffix will depend on the language and compiler involved.
• Develop the program on your local machine, and test it thoroughly to ensure that it works according to the specification.
• When you have a working source file, enter the name of the file in the window below, and press the "Assess" button.
• Ceilidh will report its assessment of your program.
